Type “crontab -e” to edit your cron file. If you just want a listing, use “crontab -l” and if you want to delete a cron job, simply type “crontab -r”.

1 2 3 4 5 /etc/myScript arguments

There are five numbers at the start of each line and represent the following:
1: minutes (0-59)
2: Hours (0-23)
3: Day (0-31)
4: Month (0-12 or January, February, … 0 and 12=December)
5: Day of the week(0-7 or Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, … 0 and 7=Sunday)

You can also customize the commands even further, sor example:
*: applies everytime

1-4: start if 1,2,3 or 4 matche
1-4/2 step-by-step, here: 1 and 3
1,5,6: enumeration
*/3: every third
1-4,10-15: enummeration and range combined

Adsense vs Adsonar
Adsense is more than double what you can expect from Adsonar, plus, with adsonar, ads seemed to be way off giving my website a ’spammy’ appearance.

Adsense vs Bidclix
No comparison here! Adsense beat Bidclix without question and again, the ads seemed to be off target.
Adsense vs Clicksor
Adsense made Clicksor look Ridiculous – the payout was not only unimpressive, but downright poor! Adsense beat Clocksor no problem.

Adsense vs IntelliTXT
IntelliTXT didn’t pay quite as good as Adsense, but the support is absolutely awesome. You’ll get an account representative who treats you with respect and genuinely cares about how your site is performing. It’s nice to know that if you have a question, you can simply contact your support representative. Adsense vs. IntelliTXT, great support, targeted ads, great service made this a hard call!

Adsense Alternative
I have always wanted to know what Adsense Alternative is out there, so I put together
this list of contextual advertising programs. I have tried each one of these alternatives and list
the amount that each program pays and what they look like when you’re logged in. The reason
I set out to join each program and do a comparative analysis is not because I am dissatisfied with Google’s Adsense,
but rather I didn’t feel comfortable having all my eggs in one basket. I have to tell you, after all my research,
Adsense is by far the stable advertising program on the net today with YPN Publisher Network paying the Highest.

You’ll notice a table at the top of this page listing each contextual advertiser
and associated results for 1000 clicks. The statistics, such as click through rate, clicks and earning per
click have all been based on actual figures, but can still be inaccurate.

Day of week, advertisers spending limits and more can cause these statistics to
change daily, even hourly. For me, they satisfy my desire to know what programs
other than adsense, are really out there.

Adsense is not listed as I am not permitted to display statistics, but I can
say that Google’s Adsense out performs the best of programs by at least
double.

I should also say that Vibrant Media is by far the most personable advertising program I have found yet. You’ll get a representative that works with you
every step of the way to get you up and running and that’s just the beginning!
More about Vibrant Media can be found here at IntelliTXT

Here are the Adsense Alternatives that are available to webmasters wishing to monetize the web!

Adbrite
AdEngage
Adgenta
Adhearus
AffiliateSensor
AllFeeds
AlternutAd
BannerBoxes
BidClix
Bidvertiser
CBProSense
Chitika (Falling Fast!)
ClicksAdsDirect
Clicksor
ContextWeb
Enhance Interactive
ExpoActive
Fastclick text ads
InfoGrabber
Intellitxt (Awesome supprt!)
Kanoodle
Mirago (out soon)
Miva (FindWhat/Espotting)
Nixxie
Quigo
RevenuePilot
SearchFeed
TargetPoint
Veoda
Yahoo YPN (In Beta, Awesome payout)

If you have information about an adsense alternative or other advertising program that you would like included, please let us know.

A joint eye tracking study conducted by search marketing firms Enquiro and eye tracking firm Eyetools has shown that the vast majority of eye tracking activity during a search happens in a triangle at the top of the search results page indicating that the areas of maximum interest create a “golden triangle.”

The first phase of the study was conducted with 50 people in Eyetools’ eye tracking lab in San Francisco, California and presented panel participants with 5 distinct scenarios that would require the use of a search engine. Google was used as the search engine in all of the instances.

Key Preliminary Findings of the Study included:
The key location on Google for visibility as determined by the eye activity in the study is a triangle that extends from the top of the results over to the top of the first result, then down to a point on the left side at the bottom of the “above the fold” visible results. This key area was looked at by 100 percent of the participants. In the study, this was referred to as the “Golden Triangle”. Generally, this area includes top sponsored, top organic results and Google’s alternative results, including shopping, news or local suggestions.

Visibility dropped quickly with organic rankings, starting at a high of 100% for the top listing, dropping to 85% at the bottom of the “above the fold” listings, and then dropping dramatically below the fold from 50% at the top to 20% at the bottom.

In case you are wondering what a cancellation notice from Quigo’s Adsonar looks like, here it is. The user who received the 9 days notice (so much for 30 days) stated that they applied for the program, ran ads for a few days, then dropped them due to the drastic difference in generated revenue from Google’s Adsense.

Adsonar Cancellation Notice
AdSonar for Publishers

May 09, 2005

Greetings!

The AdSonar for Publishers Team would like to thank you for your partnership and support of AdSonar Exchange.

We regret to inform you that between May 16th and the end of the month, Quigo will cease running ads on your site and will terminate this agreement pursuant to Clause 11 of your contract.

Our data has shown that under-performing sites (with respect to overall traffic and ROI for our advertisers) affect the revenue potential for all AdSonar publishers. As we try to build a world-class online advertising marketplace, we must periodically remove those sites which are not converting well for our advertisers.

We wanted to let you know of this move in advance so you have ample time ( 9 days) to make alternative arrangements for monetizing your traffic. All monies owed to you will be paid by the end of June 2005.

Once again, we thank you for your past support and we wish you the best of luck in the future.

Regards,

The AdSonar for Publishers Team

Kind of gives you a warm fuzzy feeling to know if you under perform (whatever that may be), you’ll get the axe.

See how Adsonar compares to Adsense.

Ever wonder what getting cut from the Contextweb is like? I received this without notice and thought I would post it for your review. I had this on a site that was only bringing in a few hundred unique visitors per day; it would have been nice to receive a warning first. The email addresses and phone number has been changed to prevent unnecessary spam from reaching the contextad team.

Dear ContextAd Publisher:

We appreciate your participation in our ContextAd partnership program. However, we regret to inform you that you have not met your monthly minimum of 50,000 impressions and therefore will not receive payment for the previous month. [that was about $180 last time I looked - couldn't log in to verify!]

We would very much so like to continue working with you in the future and recommend that you contact a business development manager to discuss how you can increase your level of monthly impressions. You can contact your business development manager directly, send an email to xyze@xyz.com or call 111.111.1111.

Thank you again for your business.

Best regards,

The ContextAd Team

This URL Encoder is a good way to encoder or hide html text.
Our URL Encoder is a tool that converts HTML code into a Unicode string which means the text looks scrambled when
your source code is viewed, but when executed as a web page, appears to be normal.

URL Encoder is not a way to protect your code, but is does a great job as a deterent to those that would otherwise attempt to view your code in passing.
Chances are, they’ll just move on.

To get started encoding, simply enter your code in the box below, press the covert button and you’ll instantly see the results. To finish, simply cut and paste the new code into the spot where the orginal code would was and save your changes.

URL Encoder Decoder
Place the code to be Encoded or Decoded below. When decoding, enter only the code between the starting ‘ and ending ‘.

* Updating Module – Try this Encoder / Decoder…

Use this HTML Encoder until we finish updating ours.

Perform HTML Encode / Decode again.

Link Vault is an excellent website marketing strategy made up of a large group of quality websites. Each new member must bring to the network at least one high quality website and make available a few links slots for existing members. In return you receive ‘Vaultage’ which you use to receive links from the other members websites.

Each website added to the network will be vetted by a person before any links are placed to ensure it meets the \strict quality guidelines. Should you wish to use your Vaultage quota to provide text link adverts to a website not in the system, then this website will also need to pass the vetting.

Link Vault is completely free and the set up is straightforward, flexible and easily customized. All the links are static, unless you delete them or the site is removed. You also have full control over the number of text links you receive.

Choose Link Vault – I have sent out emails to many asking for links and get only a small number of replies. Why not have a program that automates the task and even better still is not necessarily reciprocal.

The Link Vault is a PHP or ASP program installed onto your site with some code onto each page that you want links on. The program then adds up to 5 links on each of your pages. You then get given links on other peoples websites based on the Google PR of your and their pages.

The link vault is the new kid on the block – started April 2005. Until now, I have been using the Digitalpoint Coop as one method of getting additional links. Only problem is that the links are rotating, and Google is not so keen on links that are here today and showing somewhere else at the next moment. I have suffered with the Digitalpoint co-op – I have seen initial high rankings drop once Google has realized that the links are rotating.

So when any existing player is not interested in changing, a new player always enters the market.

The link vault has:

Permanent links – not rotating like the Digitalpoint co-op
You build up your weight based on the Google PR of each page that has links on it. Vaultage is updated every half hour and vaultage is evaluated as pages are visited. It is therefore good to send a robot around your pages. But since it takes a while for vaultage to be used up, it doesn’t matter that the vaultage takes a while to accumulate.
You don’t have to have links on every page – on the co-op you have to have links on every page.
Weight is based on an exponential formula similar to that of the Google PR, so you get lots more for a PR5 than you do a PR4 etc. I helped with deciding what formula to use.
Weight gets used up based on the PR of the page that links to you
Links are added up to a maximum 20 links per day for any one url – Google prefers a gradual increase in the number of back links. Any large increase in links speaks of spam according to the April 2005 Google patent application.
You have the ability to add up to 30 url’s for Link Vault sites to link to per domain. Additional with the referral system. Each url can have up to 3 different link texts pointing at it at varying percentages.
A maximum of 5 of any one link , and a maximum of 20 links on any one domain – means there is not the risk of the Google same site penalty (too many links from any one site).
The programming prevents their being recipricol links
Any one site can’t have links on more than 50% of the rest of the network
You can limit links to language (I recommend that you don’t limit, so you get the most possible links. Especially while the link vault is only in its infancy).
Links and sites are personally vetted by link vault staff.
No adult, gambling, weapons, pharmaceuticals, spam, general website directories, ‘offensive’ websites.
Must be legal products, suitable for family audience, recognized by the main search engines, main index page recognized by search engines.
Links are first added to sites in your category – based on the demo top level categories. Then links are added to other sites within the Link Vault.
You get credit for the best PR of 20,000 of your pages
Every site you add to your account gets treated as a referral (see following post). I was instrumental in getting this feature added. Previously it was only on actual referrals.
You can specify that you don’t get links from sites on your account to each other – this is important so that your sites don’t get treated as being the same site by Google – in this case only site would get shown for a query.
You get shown the Link Vaultage that has been used for each of your pages receiving links – this is very useful in deciding when to stop adding links.
You get shown the total links that have added per domain, and number of url’s you have per domain – able to access the links sorted by domain via a drop down menu.
Links are given to you in as fair a method as possible – PR0 links first, then ever increasing. The total number of links available and their PR’s are known by the Link Vault. They then distribute these links in a pyramid fashion. ie With 40 links they will spread over 4 different levels of page value in a pyramid fashion.
The date is shown that you added the site and had it approved, and the date you added the url’s to receive links (added around 20th May 05)
Clicking on the links does a Google search for that phrase.
If you take the max links down to less than what you already have – Example: one of the links set to a max of 100. It had 75 ‘links placed’ then reduced max down to 50. Then the ‘links placed’ went down to 50. Those 25 links are removed are the most recent links added (being the highest vaultage). You get the vaultage given back to you.

Many webmasters buy PR for their site. They find a site that has a PR of 8 for example and buy a link to their site. After a while, your site ends up with a high(er) PR and you in turn can sell PR or the site in whole; provided the site you are buying from does not have Fake PR.

Buying PR
Buying PR is not something I recommend, but if you must, make sure the site you’re buying from does not Fake PR.

Let me first tell you how websites Fake PR, then I’ll explain how to detect Fake PR. Some of you may object to me making this information available, but trust me, the people who use this technique are well aware of it!

Faking Pagerank
Sites fake PR by looking for the Googlebot, then redirecting it to a high PR site, like Yahoo.com. Google sees that users actually land on Yahoo.com and the PR Bar in turn reflects the PR of the Yahoo.com rather than your site.

Here is an example of what Fake PR code looks like:

/* insert a cloaking script here to detect whether the visitor is
Googlebot */
if (Googlebot) {
echo ‘‘;
exit();
}
else {
echo “

My PR10 page!

“;
}
?>

Detect Fake Pagerank
To detect Fake Pagerank, simply type in the webpage, such as www.SiteWithFakePR.com into Google’s search and look at the cache. The cache will not be that of the site with Fake PR, it will be the site with the actual PR.

Fake PR Example
Here is a site that fakes their Pagerank: www.pr10.darkseoteam.com and they also include examples of Fake PR 10, Fake PR9, Fake PR8 and more. Notice how the cache is of Google.com and not www.pr10.darkseoteam.com? Try it for yourself, put www.pr10.darkseoteam.com into the search field of Google and see the results for yourself.

So, if you’re buying pagerank, be very careful and check it for yourself.
